Screening tools can support clinical assessment, symptom tracking, and documentation, but they do not diagnose psychiatric conditions by themselves. Results must be interpreted in context with the clinical interview, functional impairment, safety assessment, medical and substance-related rule-outs, collateral information when appropriate, and preceptor guidance.

A high score should prompt further assessment. A low score should not override clinical concern.

Throughout this course and library, we will present a variety of tools to help with diagnosing, treating, and symptom tracking.

Screening tools are most useful when they help you ask better questions, track change over time, communicate clearly with your preceptor, and support thoughtful treatment planning.
